physiotherapist

BSc (Hon. Kinesiology, minor psychology) McMaster university

MSC (Physiotherapy) Queens university

Katie joins us after graduating from the Masters of Physiotherapy program at Queens University, which she built on her Bachelor of Science (Kinesiology) at McMaster University.

She has been involved in sports her whole life at both the recreational and high-performance level of athletics at the university level where she was on the varsity swim team at McMaster University.  She has been involved not only as an athlete, but was a trainer with several varsity programs at McMaster University, including flag football, baseball, and nordic skiing).  These experiences helped lay the foundation for her love of helping people move well, and getting them back to what they love doing which she is excited to work with our community.

In Katie’s words:

“I have always been an athlete and I’m extremely passionate about helping others become active, stay active or get back to being active.  I’m excited to help my patients find and get back to what they love to do.  I love meeting new people and am constantly inspired by the drive and passion of my patients.” ~ Katie MacAskill

Katie believes that the role of the physiotherapist on a rehabilitation team such as ours at Reactivate is one where they work alongside individuals as an educator, an accountability coach, and a movement trainer to regain and re-establish their functional strength, range of motion, and get them back to movement and active living that is full and pain-free.

Working collaboratively with the team at Reactivate is important to her as every member of the rehabilitation team views the patient through a unique lens that is characterized by their background and their experiences.  The team works together to problem solve each individual’s unique condition and the situation in order to help them define and achieve their goals, support them through the rehabilitation process, and get them back to living their best life.

In her words, her overarching philosophy is that:

“I believe that the patient is an active member of the rehabilitation team, and by working collaboratively with the them, we can achieve the best results possible.  I try my best to be a compassionate care provider, to listen and hear what my patients are telling me, and help them achieve their goals.”
