Dr. Kirkby was born and raised in Huntsville before moving away for university. He completed his medical training at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and subsequently pursued his Family Medicine residency at the University of Toronto. Throughout medical school and residency, Dr. Kirkby developed a focus interest in Sport and Exercise Medicine and dedicated a substantial portion of his training working with sports medicine experts across the province, including Dr. Trenholm at Reactivate Muskoka.

Dr. Kirkby currently practices both Sports Medicine and Family Medicine in both Muskoka and Toronto. Growing up in Muskoka and being heavily involved in local sports including basketball, skiing and golf, he relates well to athletes and active individuals in the area. He truly values the lifelong benefits that sport and exercise bring to our community, regardless of age.

Guided by a “movement is medicine” philosophy, Dr. Kirkby is committed to helping patients continue pursuing the activities they enjoy through a personalized and evidence-based approach.

Dr. Kirkby provides comprehensive care for a wide range of musculoskeletal and sports-related conditions, with clinical interests in promoting patient longevity, injury prevention, and active lifestyles. He believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to move at their fullest potential and is passionate about helping his patients achieve that goal.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kirkby provides medical coverage for athletic events, including the Ironman 70.3 Muskoka and TriMuskoka.

Beyond medicine, he stays busy playing basketball (Go Raptors!), golfing, weight training, skiing, exploring the outdoors and traveling.

NOTE FOR PATIENTS:

A referral from a client’s Primary Care Provider is required to see Dr. Kirkby as his services are covered through OHIP. Clients need to contact their family physician and get them to fax a referral form, with all of the appropriate supporting documents (imaging, lab tests, previous notes) so that he has all the information for the consultation. 

Alternatively, if clients are already seeing an Allied Health Professional (Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Massage Therapist, Naturopath, Osteopath), they can request a consultation from the clients Primary Care Provider.
